Basketball Recap: La Salle Falls Despite Big Games from Aislin Tamez Torres and Casey Higgins

After flying high against St. Anthony last Thursday, La Salle came back down to earth. The La Salle Lancers fell 43-36 to the St. Anthony Saints on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lancers came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Saints are ranked 118th).

La Salle's loss came despite strong showings from Casey Higgins and Aislin Tamez Torres. Higgins posted 17 points and six rebounds, while Tamez Torres earned eight points and nine boards. Higgins' afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

St. Anthony's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordyn Washington led the charge by putting up 23 points and four steals. Kadence Lloyd was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards.

La Salle's defeat dropped their record down to 18-5. As for St. Anthony, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-11 record.

La Salle has already played their next matchup, a 56-45 victory against St. Mary's Academy on the 27th. As for St. Anthony, they will challenge Bishop Montgomery at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Anthony is on a three-game streak of home wins, Bishop Montgomery a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
