Basketball Recap: Elkhorn Valley Extends Winning Streak to Four

Elkhorn Valley extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping them up to 4-0. They put the hurt on the O'Neill Eagles with a sharp 69-47 victory. Fans of the Falcons have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Elkhorn Valley found their leader in sophomore Kyndal Werner, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 16 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Thanks to that strong game, Werner now owns an excellent 47.4% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Rutjens, who posted 14 points and seven assists.

Elkhorn Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

Having lost for the first time this season, O'Neill fell to 2-1. The loss put an end to their undefeated start to the season.

O'Neill lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Taylor Young, who scored nine points and five boards. Mariah Kallhoff was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Looking ahead, Elkhorn Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Elgin/Pope John at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. O'Neill has already played their next contest (against Cedar Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
