Basketball Recap: Williamsburg Comes Up Short

Williamsburg has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-67 heartbreaker at the hands of the Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy WolfPack. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the WolfPack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 75-72 back in January.

Williamsburg lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Levada Gorsuch, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. What's more, she also posted an 89% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anastasia Ranalli, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 19 points and five boards.

Williamsburg's loss dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-2 record this season.

Williamsburg and Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Williamsburg will square off against Union Area at 1:30 p.m. on March 8th. Union Area will roll in looking for their 25th straight win, something Williamsburg surely won't give up without a fight. As for Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy, they will face off against Clairton at 1:00 p.m. on March 8th. Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 games -- so hopefully Clairton likes a good challenge.
