Softball Recap: Hawkinsville Comes Up Short

Hawkinsville extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 2-16. They came up short against the Wilcox County Patriots, falling 15-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in August.

Hawkinsville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Janette Collins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Wilcox County, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

On Wilcox County's side, Shamauri Martin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Martin has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August of 2024.

In other batting news, Zariah Martin was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maeson Owens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Hawkinsville will welcome Marion County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Red Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wilcox County, they will venture away from home to challenge Schley County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
