Football Recap: Southern Wells Comes Up Short

Southern Wells extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They were outmatched by the Heritage Patriots and fell 42-7. The Raiders lost against the Patriots in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 70-0 score last time.

Trey Slusher threw for 36 yards on two of 18 attempts. Alden Dollar was his top target, picking up 29 receiving yards.

As for Heritage, their record is now 5-3. Considering they have won three matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Heritage's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Weber, who threw for 160 yards and three TDs while completing 90% of his passes. Weber also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles. Lantae Cassel was Weber's top target, picking up 74 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Southern Wells will head out to challenge South Adams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' defense better be ready for this one: the Starfires have averaged an impressive 36.6 points per game this season. As for Heritage, they are taking a road trip to square off against Jay County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Heritage will be up against Jay County's rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.13 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
