Baseball Game Preview: Gilbert Yellowjackets vs. Nonnewaug Chiefs

Gilbert is 0-10 against Nonnewaug since May of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Yellowjackets will look to defend their home field against the Chiefs at 3:45 p.m.

Friday just wasn't the day for Gilbert's offense. They lost 6-0 to Shepaug Valley on May 1st.

Meanwhile, Nonnewaug entered their tilt with Northwestern Regional on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Highlanders. Considering the Chiefs have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ryan Alther looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025.

On the hitting side, Brayden Whipple was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Hustek, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Gilbert's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Nonnewaug, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.
