Soccer Recap: Petaluma Finds Playoff Glory Versus Newark Memorial

With a playoff win on the line, Petaluma rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Newark Memorial Cougars 2-1. The game got a bit rough at times, as the refs handed out a total of three yellow cards before it was all over: the Trojans' Natalia Efhan and Alafair Birmingham and the Cougars' Alexia Sanchez were all carded.

Birmingham and Madilynn Greenlief scored both of Petaluma's goals, bringing their combined season tally to five goals.

Petaluma has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 17 goals over those four contests. Newark Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

Petaluma has already played their next match, a 1-0 victory against American on the 21st. Newark Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
