Basketball Game Preview: Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets vs. Calexico Bulldogs

The Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets will take on the Calexico Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Palo Verde Valley and four for Calexico.

Last Monday, Palo Verde Valley lost to Imperial at home by a 41-27 margin. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 812th, while the Tigers are ranked 141st).

Reagan McCarthy was Palo Verde Valley's leading scorer, having posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Calexico scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Vincent Memorial by a score of 52-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since December 11, 2024.

Calexico's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Palo Verde Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9.

Palo Verde Valley came up short against Calexico in their previous meeting back in January, falling 47-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Calexico's Ivanna Camarillo, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten steals.
