Softball Recap: Basalt Takes a Loss

If Basalt was feeling good fresh off their 18-2 takedown of Aspen on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Longhorns took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rifle Bears on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Longhorns in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost four in a row.

Basalt saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liliana Santini, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Basalt's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Rifle, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Basalt will head out to challenge Gunnison at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cowboys will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Rifle, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Palisade at 6:00 p.m. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
