Soccer Game Preview: American vs. James Logan

The American Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the James Logan Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

James Logan will be up against a hot American team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. American never let Moreau Catholic onto the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday. The Eagles' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matchups.

Julia Ignatov and Abigail Peterman scored all three of American's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 31 goals.

Meanwhile, James Logan had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with an 11-0 win. Given the Colts' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 374th, while the Warriors are ranked 1053rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

James Logan's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4-2. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three games. As for American, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6-1 record this season.

Everything went American's way against James Logan in their previous meeting back in January, as American made off with a 4-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for American since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
