Football Recap: Opelika Finds Playoff Glory Versus Hewitt-Trussville + How To Watch

It's playoff time, and Opelika had no trouble coming through when it counted. They managed a 27-21 win over the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Opelika got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jalynn Washington out in front who picked up 93 receiving yards and one score. That's the most receiving yards Washington has posted since back in September.

Opelika's run defense was locked in: Hewitt-Trussville could only muster 2.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Jamel Griffin for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Opelika; they were averaging 5yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 0 per game.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 13 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Reese Beasley: he added 12 points with four field goals and another on an extra-point kick.

Hewitt-Trussville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Cope, who picked up 175 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Cope really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 88 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Benedict, who threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes.

Opelika's record now sits at 8-3. As for Hewitt-Trussville, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 8-3.

Opelika didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 35-9 win against Baker on the 14th. Hewitt-Trussville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
