Volleyball Recap: Lucy Wages Key Part of Team Effort in Spartans Win

Athens Academy posted their closest win since August 14th on Thursday. They skirted past the East Jackson Eagles 2-1. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Athens Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucy Wages, who had 18 assists and five digs. Wages has been hot, having posted 13 or more assists the last five times she's played. Joci Higginbotham also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

The victory got Athens Academy back to even at 7-7. As for East Jackson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens Academy will challenge Loganville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Jackson, they will host Jackson County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
