Softball Game Preview: Gretna East Griffins vs. Standing Bear Grizzlies

The Gretna East Griffins will venture away from home to square off against the Standing Bear Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gretna East's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Standing Bear's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Gretna East is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Northwest, who was ranked second at the time (Gretna East was ranked 17th). The Griffins came up short against the Vikings on Tuesday, falling 10-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Griffins have suffered since September 5th.

Kaylin Hinerman made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

Standing Bear couldn't beat Norris on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Grizzlies lost 12-4 to the Titans. The Grizzlies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Standing Bear saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Standing Bear's defeat dropped their record down to 15-14. As for Gretna East, their loss dropped their record down to 17-12.

Gretna East came out on top in a nail-biter against Standing Bear in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Griffins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
