Basketball Recap: Katelyn Gallagher Key Part of a Team Effort in Aztecs Win

Palm Desert hadn't done well against La Quinta recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Palm Desert Aztecs enjoyed a cozy 47-30 victory over the La Quinta Blackhawks. That's more bragging rights for the Aztecs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palm Desert to victory, but perhaps none more so than Katelyn Gallagher, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 13 points and eight steals. Gallagher has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 34 times she's played. Ava Tethal was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

La Quinta lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Leahnette Castro-Galarza, who posted ten points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Alvarez-Ladd, who had five points.

Palm Desert is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.3 points per game. As for La Quinta, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
