Basketball Recap: Burke Comes Up Short

Burke played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 53-29 to the Fremont Tigers. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 52-42 to the Tigers when the teams met back in January of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Burke saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Janelle Clark posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Fremont found their leader in sophomore Valerie Campos, who went 6-for-11 en route to 22 points along with five boards and five steals. Campos' big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elli Weinandt, who scored five points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Burke and nudges their season record down to 3-8. As for Fremont, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-7 record.

Coming up, Burke won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Omaha Northwest at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Huskies' rather soft defense (which has allowed 58.82 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Fremont has already played their next contest (against Kearney), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
