Football Game Preview: Center Point-Urbana Stormin' Pointers vs. Mt. Vernon Mustangs

The Center Point-Urbana Stormin' Pointers will head out on the road to square off against the Mt. Vernon Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Center Point-Urbana has given up an average of 26.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Center Point-Urbana might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 45-6 to Wahlert, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Stormin' Pointers have struggled against the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, while Mt. Vernon put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Maquoketa. The Mustangs blew past the Cardinals 50-0. Considering the Mustangs have won three matchups by more than 43 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Mt. Vernon and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for Center Point-Urbana, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Center Point-Urbana took a serious blow against Mt. Vernon when the teams last played back in September of 2022, falling 42-6. Can the Stormin' Pointers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
