Two dominant signal callers in Luke Lynn and Gonzalo Cano are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Roswell Coyotes will challenge the Belen Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Roswell strolled past Goddard with points to spare, taking the game 35-21. The Coyotes haven't had any issues with the Rockets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Belen had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 50-23 win over the Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Eagles have posted against the Vikings since October 19, 2019.
Belen had a senior duo take command as Logan Gonzalez gained 209 total yards and Elijah Schaffino-Vallejo rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries. Schaffino-Vallejo also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making four total tackles.
Belen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 440 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
One reason for the win was Belen's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Valley's QB won't forget Nehemiah Sanchez anytime soon given he sacked him three times. Belen received some extra help from Sanchez, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Belen's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Roswell, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Everything came up roses for Roswell against Belen in their previous meeting back in September of 2019, as the team secured a 54-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Coyotes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
