Softball Recap: Westover Wins Going Away Against Dougherty

Westover hadn't done well against Dougherty recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Patriots blew past the Trojans 17-8. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by exactly nine runs.

Chamya Astin spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Westover got a massive performance out of Savannah Donaldson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Donaldson has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Morgan Polite, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Westover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Westover's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-11. As for Dougherty, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westover will square off against Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dougherty, they will challenge Turner County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.79 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
