Basketball Game Preview: Banning Pilots vs. San Pedro Pirates

Banning is 0-10 against San Pedro since January of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Banning Pilots will head out to challenge the San Pedro Pirates at 4:30 p.m. Banning will be strutting in after a win while San Pedro will be coming in after a defeat.

San Pedro will be up against a hot Banning squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Banning came out on top against Gardena by a score of 53-42 on Friday.

Meanwhile, San Pedro played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Carson, falling 56-35. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, San Pedro saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jamie Sanchez posted 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Sanchez. Another player making a difference was Leslie Aguilera, who had seven points.

Banning has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.4 points per game. As for San Pedro, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Banning ended up a good deal behind San Pedro when the teams last played back in January of 2024, losing 51-33. Can Banning avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
