Basketball Preview: Exeter Monarchs vs. Washington Union Panthers
Exeter has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Washington Union Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Exeter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Exeter beat the Cavaliers 54-50.
Exeter found their leader in underclassman Chloe Sparrow, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sparrow has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Venegas, who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Washington Union had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Selma 40-10 at home on Friday. The victory was just what Washington Union needed coming off of a 50-22 defeat in their prior matchup.
Exeter's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 16-10. As for Washington Union, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-14.
Exeter came up short against the Panthers in their previous meeting back in January, falling 40-34. Can Exeter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
