Basketball Game Preview: La Jolla Country Day Torreys vs. Silverado Hawks

The La Jolla Country Day Torreys and the Silverado Hawks will face off at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday without much rest, having both just played. La Jolla Country Day will be strutting in after a victory while Silverado will be coming in after a defeat.

La Jolla Country Day's tournament run continued when they took on Brentwood School on Tuesday. The Torreys took down the Eagles 61-46. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Torreys.

Safiyah Sugapong was a one-woman wrecking crew as she went 7-for-16 to rack up 24 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those 24 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mahlia Washington, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

La Jolla Country Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Silverado was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 62-30 defeat at the hands of Chaparral.

La Jolla Country Day's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Silverado, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
