Preview: Sachse Mustangs vs. Wylie Pirates
Two dominant signal callers in Brenden George and Jagger Bale are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sachse Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Wylie Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sachse is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Sachse put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 49-14 win over South Garland. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.
Sachse can attribute much of their success to Brendon Haygood, who gained 150 total yards and two touchdowns, and George, who threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Haygood's longest reception was for an incredible 94 yards.
Meanwhile, Wylie's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 21-14 win over Naaman Forest. Given Wylie's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 289th, while Naaman Forest is ranked 613th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wylie can attribute much of their success to Joshua Ausborne, who rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown, and Bale, who threw for 199 yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Wylie's defense and their five sacks. In that department, Harrison Vicic was the leader with two sacks.
Sachse's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.8 points per game. As for Wylie, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Sachse couldn't quite finish off Wylie when the teams last played back in October of 2022 and fell 19-17. Can Sachse avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
