Basketball Recap: Duncan Comes Up Short

Duncan lost against Ray back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Duncan Wildkats received a blow as they fell 62-44 to the Ray Bearcats.

When it comes to explaining why Duncan lost, don't look at Isaiah Sumner. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. What's more, Sumner also racked up eight blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024.

Even though they lost, Duncan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Ray's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chase Chester led the charge by putting up 16 points and six steals. Chester's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chris Curiel, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Duncan's record now sits at 8-14. As for Ray, they now have a winning record of 14-13.

Duncan has already played their next game, a 51-43 defeat against Willcox on the 3rd. As for Ray, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-65 win against Lourdes Catholic on the 1st.
