Basketball Recap: Evergreen Valley Cougars vs. Ann Sobrato Bulldogs
The Evergreen Valley Cougars came tearing into Tuesday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Ann Sobrato with points to spare, taking the game 67-53. Given Evergreen Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Ryka Aprameyan, who shot 5-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double on 40 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Xuan-Mai Nguyen was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Ann Sobrato lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brianna Bouton. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaci Bolton, who scored 11 points.
Ann Sobrato struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Evergreen Valley pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Evergreen Valley's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-5. As for Ann Sobrato, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evergreen Valley will challenge the Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leland has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29. As for Ann Sobrato, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
