Basketball Recap: Pottstown Takes a Loss

Pottstown won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They came up short against the Upper Merion Area Vikings, falling 62-38. The Trojans have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Pottstown lost, don't look at Jayanna Hill. Despite the final result, she posted 24 points. That was a full 63.2% of Pottstown's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Yamiraha Sahad, who earned seven points.

Upper Merion Area was led to victory by Kennedy Coles and Devon Maiden. Coles dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 boards, while Maiden went 8 for 14 en route to 21 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Coles is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Piper Edge was another key player, putting up six points and ten rebounds.

Pottstown's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Upper Merion Area, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.

Pottstown will challenge Saucon Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Upper Merion Area, they will take on Mt. St. Joseph Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
