Basketball Recap: Coastal Academy Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Coastal Academy couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were dealt a 53-23 defeat at the hands of the O'Farrell Charter Falcons on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Stingrays have suffered since January 7th.

Coastal Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Heiress Afalava and London Afalava. Heiress dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards, while London posted seven points and seven rebounds. Heiress has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.

Even though they lost, Coastal Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

O'Farrell Charter was led to victory by Joniah Cashwell and Liona Rusom. Cashwell dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Rusom went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points in addition to six assists and six steals. The dominant performance also gave Cashwell a new career-high in steals (eight). Ty'Reiona WashingTon was another key player, putting up ten points along with six boards and five steals.

The defeat snapped Coastal Academy's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-7 record. As for O'Farrell Charter, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-7.

Coastal Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for O'Farrell Charter, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-19 loss against Santana on the 25th.
