Baseball Recap: Mendon Unity Victorious

The matchup between Mendon Unity and Illini West on Tuesday hardly resembled the 3-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 victory over the Chargers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since April 9, 2025.

Mendon Unity's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Avery Frese, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Frese has become a key player for the Mustangs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another was Adler Gray, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Mendon Unity was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Mendon Unity has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Illini West, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-4.

Looking ahead, Mendon Unity is taking a road trip to face off against Clark County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
