Baseball Game Preview: Hillgrove Hawks vs. Etowah Eagles

The Hillgrove Hawks will face off against the Etowah Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Hillgrove sitting on three straight wins and Etowah on five.

Hillgrove proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 14) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Holy Innocents Episcopal 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since April 1st.

For the second game in a row, fans were treated to another clash between #13 Etowah and #52 Blessed Trinity. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Titans an 8-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering the Eagles have won 18 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Etowah pushed their record up to 27-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hillgrove, their win bumped their record up to 19-10.

Everything went Hillgrove's way against Etowah in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, as Hillgrove made off with a 12-5 victory. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
