Football Recap: De Kalb Starts off Right with Win over Mineola

De Kalb gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Mineola Yellowjackets 42-13. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-7.

De Kalb's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maddux Burgin led the charge by throwing for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punching in two TDs on the ground. The Bears' leading receiver Walker Matteson was Burgin's top target yet again, picking up 149 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. De Kalb is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Pittsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mineola, they will take on Scurry-Rosser at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
