Football Preview: Abilene Eagles vs. Monterey Plainsmen
The Abilene Eagles will square off against the Monterey Plainsmen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Abilene is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Abilene and Tascosa had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Eagles took down the Rebels 24-6 on Friday.

Abilene didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jordan Brown and Charles Meeks. Brown also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six. Demaurcs Reid was another major factor on D, making 17 total tackles.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Monterey was not quite Tascosa's equal in the second half last Friday. They received a blow as they fell 35-21 to the Rebels. While the Plainsmen didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rebels 7-0 in the first quarter.
Abilene will need to focus on slowing down Quarren Q Boyd, one of several Monterey players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 169 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Reed, who threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns.
Abilene's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Monterey, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Things could have been worse for Abilene, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 31-17 loss to Monterey in their previous matchup back in October of 2024.
