Preview: Troy Trojans vs. St. Mary's Lancers
Troy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Troy Trojans and the St. Mary's Lancers will round out the year against one another at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday at. Hopefully Troy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact Troy proved. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 52-35 victory over Williamson.
Troy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alyssa Parks out in front who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Gloria Andrews, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's and Horseheads' matchup two weeks ago was close at halftime, but St. Mary's turned on the heat in the second half with 47 points. Everything went St. Mary's way against Horseheads as St. Mary's made off with a 69-45 victory.
Emily Mcdonald went supernova for St. Mary's, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mcdonald has scored at least 25% of St. Mary's points. Jada Mushat was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Troy's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for St. Mary's, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Troy have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 39.7% of their threes per game. However, it's not like St. Mary's struggles in that department as they've drained 40% of their threes per game this season.
