Basketball Recap: El Primero Takes a Loss

If El Primero was riding high fresh off their 44-13 takedown of Luis Valdez Leadership Academy on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The El Primero Lobos lost 43-20 to the KIPP San Jose Collegiate Wolfpack on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Lobos have suffered against the Wolfpack since January 14, 2022.

Kelsy Murguia was El Primero's leading scorer, having posted ten points. Jenzza Hudson held things down on the boards with six rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead KIPP San Jose Collegiate to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aliyana Amezcua, who posted 20 points and three steals. Amezcua is becoming a predictor of KIPP San Jose Collegiate's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when she doesn't). Taide Garcia Zepeda was another key player, putting up 13 points and four steals.

El Primero's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for KIPP San Jose Collegiate, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-11.

El Primero didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-14 loss against Kehillah on the 17th. As for KIPP San Jose Collegiate, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 39-25 defeat against Pescadero on the 17th.
