Two dominant backs in Piercen Huff and Easton Schroeder are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Central Christian Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Norwich Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Norwich likes a good challenge.
On Friday, Central Christian was fully in charge, breezing past Pretty Prairie 52-6. Fans of the Cougars have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Central Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Eigsti, who rushed for 41 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 34 yards and one TD. Eigsti was even better on defense, forcing one fumble, making two total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending one pass in addition to snagging two interceptions.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Central Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 235 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 167 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Central Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Eigsti and Huff were the leaders of the group effort as each produced two apiece. Huff got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Norwich took on Fairfield on Friday. The Eagles took a blow against the Falcons, falling 52-6. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Norwich's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.58 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.63 in the others. As for Central Christian, their record is now 7-0.
Everything came up roses for Central Christian against Norwich in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 52-6 victory. In that game, the Cougars amassed a halftime lead of 46-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
