Baseball Recap: Dodge County Makes It Three in a Row at Home

The home team had won the previous seven meetings between Dodge County and Southwest, and Dodge County kept the tradition alive. The Dodge County Indians' pitcher stepped up to hand the Southwest Patriots a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-5 on Tuesday.

Holden Thomas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Dodge County is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise. Thomas was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Gabe Yeomans and Karson Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Yeomans scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Jones scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was JT Wimberly, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Dodge County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Southwest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.

Coming up, Dodge County will square off against Washington County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwest, they will welcome East Laurens at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
