Basketball Recap: Isabella Alvarez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Ann Sobrato

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Watsonville on Wednesday. They strolled past the Ann Sobrato Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 53-35. Given the Wildcatz's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 810th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Watsonville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isabella Alvarez, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc on her way to 18 points and six steals. Alvarez continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Leon, who posted eight points in addition to eight assists and eight steals.

Watsonville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Isle, who had ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaede Salom, who put up nine points.

Watsonville's win bumped their record up to 3-1.
