Basketball Recap: Southern Lee Comes Up Short

Southern Lee lost against Triton back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Southern Lee Cavaliers took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Triton Hawks. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading Triton to victory were Ja'Niah Smith and Nashara McNeil-Watlington. Smith dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds, while McNeil-Watlington went 7 of 12 on her way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Smith is becoming a predictor of Triton's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 4-2 (and 1-3 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Neveah Hawley, who posted 11 points.

Southern Lee's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Triton, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Southern Lee will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Montgomery Central at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Triton and Elizabeth Seton will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elizabeth Seton will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Triton surely won't give up without a fight.
