Softball Recap: Dougherty Takes a Loss

Dougherty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Randolph-Clay Red Devils. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2019.

Jalexi Thomas was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only two earned runs while striking out 15 over 6.2 innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero hits, the fewest she's had since back in August. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Madison Zachery was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Jaida Nelson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Dougherty's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Randolph-Clay, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season.

Dougherty will square off against Mitchell County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Randolph-Clay, they will face off against Seminole County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
