Basketball Recap: Conemaugh Valley Takes a Loss

Conemaugh Valley lost against Portage back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays were outmatched by the Portage Mustangs and fell 61-30. While losing is never fun, the Blue Jays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 577th, while the Mustangs are ranked 245th).

Despite the defeat, Conemaugh Valley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gwen Masser dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Masser is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Kendall Bednarski went supernova for Portage, putting up 30 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those 30 points gave Bednarski a new career-high. Jada Irvin was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Conemaugh Valley is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13. As for Portage, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Conemaugh Valley will face off against Conemaugh Township at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portage, they will take on United at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
