Basketball Game Preview: Clairton Bears vs. Monessen Greyhounds

The Clairton Bears will square off against the Monessen Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clairton has four straight victories, Monessen has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Clairton is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Mapletown: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Clairton blew Mapletown out of the water with a 72-34 final score. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 22 points or more this season.

Iyanna Wade continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 49 points. The contest was her 38th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of K Fuqua, who posted nine points.

Meanwhile, Monessen played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Geibel Catholic, falling 50-25. The Greyhounds were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-7.

Clairton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Monessen, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
