Softball Recap: Thompson Valley Comes Up Short

Thompson Valley had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-7 to make it eight. They came up short against the Severance Silver Knights, falling 21-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 15-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

As for Severance, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3-1. The result was nothing new for the Silver Knights, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Severance's part, Katie Thomas and Elizabeth Stimatze were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Thomas pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stimatze struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in August. At bat, Thomas went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Stimatze went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Severance got a massive performance out of Taylor Steenburgen, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Steenburgen has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kenzy Henneke, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Thompson Valley will square off against Weld Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. As for Severance, they will venture away from home to challenge Berthoud at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
