Softball Recap: Spalding Comes Up Short

Spalding extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-5. They came up short against the Troup County Tigers, falling 9-3. The Jaguars were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Ra'Khiya Duffie made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Troup County, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for they.

On Troup County's side, Kaitlyn Smalley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Kaylee Cardwell was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Camryn Nunis also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Spalding will welcome Jackson at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Troup County, they will head out on the road to face off against Sandy Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season.
