Porter and Crosby are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Spartans will square off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Friday, Porter came up short against Friendswood and fell 27-14. The Spartans gained 89 more yards on the day, but it was the Mustangs that made the best use of them.

Porter might have lost, but man, Landon Binford was a machine: he picked up 98 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 56 yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Crosby unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of La Porte. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 72nd).

Porter will need to focus on slowing down T-Zion Sutherland, one of several Crosby players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 79 yards and one score, and also caught one touchdown. Luke Wheeler also helped out with an impressive 102 receiving yards.

Crosby's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Porter, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 4-4.

Porter might still be hurting after the 49-26 loss they got from Crosby when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Spartans, Wesley Yarbrough (who rushed for 284 yards and five TDs while picking up 9.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
