Basketball Game Preview: Modesto Panthers vs. Downey Knights

Modesto is 1-9 against Downey since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Modesto Panthers will square off against the Downey Knights at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Thursday, Modesto ended up a good deal behind Enochs and lost 52-36. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Allison Marchy, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maeve Kidd, who posted 11 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Modesto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 34-30 heartbreaker at the hands of San Leandro.

Modesto's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Downey, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Modesto came up short against Downey in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 40-27. Can Modesto avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
