Basketball Recap: McLane Highlanders vs. Sunnyside Wildcats
The McLane Highlanders scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They came out on top against Sunnyside by a score of 51-42. The win was a breath of fresh air for McLane as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Among those leading the charge was Valeria Cerda, who scored 21 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of McLane's points. Annalynne Sengnalyvong was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Sunnyside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ruby Cartwright. Despite the final result, she scored 26 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Cartwright is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 21 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jubilee Yang, who scored five points along with four steals.
McLane's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-14. As for Sunnyside, they dropped their record down to 7-17 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.
McLane will challenge the Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sanger West is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Sunnyside, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Fresno presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in California (the Warriors are ranked 330th, while the Wildcats are ranked 829th).
