Baseball Recap: Monroe Area Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Monroe Area can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the West Hall Spartans. This was a revenge game for the Purple Hurricanes: when they faced off against the Spartans last Tuesday, they had to take a 4-2 loss.

Cayson Gmerek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on two hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kesler Locsin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Wyatt Nolte also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Monroe Area's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-9. As for West Hall, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-12.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: West Hall beat Monroe Area by a score of 5-3 later that day.
