Baseball Recap: Munster Triumphs

Munster's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Danny Schassburger was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Nick Crowley was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Nate Southwell, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Munster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Munster's win bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.

Munster wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 7-3 victory against Moline on the 16th. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-1 loss against Cathedral on the 16th.
