Volleyball Recap: Ryle Falls Despite Big Games from Francesca Hansel and Ria Furuta

After flying high against Dixie Heights on Thursday, Ryle came back down to earth. The Raiders fell just short of the Great Crossing Warhawks by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The Raiders' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

The 3-2 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Ryle lost were decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 29-27, 26-24, 10-25, 15-13.

Ria Furuta and Francesca Hansel certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Furuta had 13 digs and three aces, while Hansel had ten digs and two aces. Furuta is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Jenna Browning had a dynamite game For Great Crossing., getting 21 digs and two aces. That's the most digs Browning has posted over her last eight contests. Gabrielle Bray also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Ryle's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Great Crossing, their victory bumped their record up to 18-8.

Coming up, Ryle will welcome Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Great Crossing, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-1 defeat against North Oldham on the 4th.
