Football Recap: Stamford Black Knights vs. Staples Wreckers
Stamford lost against Staples back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Black Knights were dealt a 49-6 defeat at the hands of the Wreckers. While losing is never fun, the Black Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Wreckers are ranked fifth).
Jack Healy threw for 240 yards and one TD. Isaiah Stephens was his top target, picking up 157 receiving yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Michael Kerr rushed for 29 yards.
Nick Weil had a dynamite game For Staples., throwing for 239 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Weil a new career-high in passer rating (156.3). Justin Halky got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
This is the second loss in a row for Stamford and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Staples, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Looking ahead, Stamford will head out to square off against Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Staples, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
