Basketball Recap: Emily Matz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Moniteau over Karns City

Moniteau lost against Karns City back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Moniteau Warriors lost 52-30 to the Karns City Gremlins. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 479th, while the Gremlins are ranked 107th).

Moniteau's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Matz, who posted five points along with six boards and three steals. Matz is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Alyssa Thompson was another key player, putting up seven points.

This is the second loss in a row for Moniteau and nudges their season record down to 8-15. As for Karns City, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season.

As of now, neither Moniteau nor Karns City have any future games scheduled.
