Preview: Borrego Springs Rams vs. West Shores Wildcats

Borrego Springs and West Shores are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Borrego Springs Rams will be playing at home against the West Shores Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Wednesday, Borrego Springs didn't have too much trouble with San Pasqual Academy at home as they won 26-8. The win was just what Borrego Springs needed coming off of a 38-6 loss in their prior contest.

Borrego Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Melanie Urquidez, who scored 12 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Urquidez has scored all season. Abigail Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with four steals.

Meanwhile, West Shores scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Thursday. They blew past Desert Chapel 46-12 on the road. The victory was nothing new for West Shores as they're now sitting on four straight.

Anastacia Garth continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Joana Cabrera, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Borrego Springs' victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11. As for West Shores, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Borrego Springs have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like West Shores struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 19.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Borrego Springs came up short against West Shores when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 16-9. Will Borrego Springs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
